TOWIE newcomer Junaid Ahmed has shared an update on his close friend Yazmin Oukhellou after the horror car crash in Turkey that killed boyfriend Jake McLean.

The Essex star was speaking at the National Reality TV Awards on Monday ahead of his debut in the reality series.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, he said: “She’s in the best place that she can be. I’m so, so excited for the new series. There’s loads of typical TOWIE stuff that you need to keep your eyes out for. I’m ruffling a few feathers.”

Junaid, 27, who you may recognise from his previous reality TV past, is one of two new cast members shaking up the series.

He will be making his debut alongside Jordan Brook, who first appeared on the show in 2017 but was axed in 2018 before being welcomed back. Bosses brought him into the fold as he has close friendships with Yaz, Dani Imbert, and Ella Rae Wise.

A source recently told OK! how the whole TOWIE cast were in "disbelief" about the tragedy.

They said: "Yaz was meant to be coming back to the show. The cast are sending their support and they will be around her when she’s home. They just want her home. You never expect something like this to happen. It just makes you realise you never know what is going to happen in life.”

Yazmin was travelling as the passenger in the car with Jake, 33, in Bodrum, south-west Turkey, when the crash happened at around 4.30am on Sunday 3 July. It’s been reported that the vehicle careered 70ft over a cliff bend and landed in a ravine 30ft below.

An official told reporters that Jake is estimated to have been driving at “well over” the 40mph speed limit. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, while Yazmin was taken to hospital. Doctors reportedly told her she was “very lucky” to have survived.

Yazmin was discharged from hospital earlier this month after being left severely injured. As well as recovering from her physical injuries, Yazmin has also spoken candidly about her battle with psychological ones, as she revealed she still has “nightmares every single night since the accident” and has been sharing a bed with her mum in the hopes of curbing the painful dreams.

Yazmin spent around two weeks in hospital in Turkey but as soon as she was well enough to be discharged from hospital, Yaz made it her mission to return to the UK in order to be with her loved ones as she tried to come to terms with the loss of her boyfriend.
