William and Kate’s reaction to Margot Robbie’s Harry joke at BAFTAs is priceless

Margot Robbie’s joke in speech for Brad Pitt’s BAFTA win 2020

Prior to Covid, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the Baftas in February 2020, with the cameras panning over them during Margot Robbie’s speech.

Margot took to the stage to accept Brad Pitt’s Best Supporting Actor gong for his work in Quentin Tarantino’s film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Brad was unable to attend the ceremony due to “family obligations” leaving Robbie to read out a speech full of references to Brexit and Prince Harry.

She read: “Hey Britain! I heard you just became single, welcome to the club.”

Robbie then read out a joke referencing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to relinquish their duties as senior members of the royal family.

While looking at the gold gong, she said: “He says that he’s going to name this Harry because he’s really excited about bringing it back to the States with him. His words, not mine!”

The camera’s then zoomed into the Prince and Princess of Wales’ reaction as they sat front row, and were visibly laughing at the joke.

A resurfaced clip of William and Kate’s reaction has since gone viral on TikTok, where it has more than 70,000 likes, and where many viewers have commended the couple’s composure.

This is not the first time Meghan and Harry have been brought up in ceremonies, with Rebel Wilson also using the couple during her hosting stint in 2022.

Hosting the BAFTA ceremony, Rebel criticised Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey when announcing the category for Outstanding British Film.

She quipped: “From drama to horror, to fantasy. Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah had it all.

“Unfortunately, that’s not nominated in this category, but some incredible films are.”

The actress doubled down on her remarks when she later revealed that she ran the joke by a friend in the royal family.

She said on BBC’s The One Show: “They actually have a really great sense of humour. People think [not] because of their position but they like to laugh as well!”

Harry and Meghan have kept out of the public eye in recent months, having been last spotted ahead of the Suits actresses’ 42nd birthday at Tre Lune, close to their Montecito, California, home.

They will also be stepping back into the limelight next month during the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The couple’s production company, Archewell, will be releasing a competition series about the games called The Heart of Invictus on Netflix.
