X Factor icon left broken hearted and devastated as dad dies

The dad of former X Factor finalist Christopher Maloney has sadly passed away.

Christopher, 45, took to the social media site X, which used to be called Twitter, to share the news with his fans as he posted a heartfelt message.

The singer rose to fame during the 2012 series of hit ITV competition show the X Factor, which saw him finish in third place after making it all the way to the final.

He soon became a fan favourite in the show for how close he was with his family as he spoke a lot about his nan.

But on Tuesday, the singing superstar posted on social media that his dad, who was also called Chris, had passed away.

In the message, he wrote: "So today my world has fallen apart…

"At 8am this morning my beautiful Dad has suddenly passed away at home.

"I am totally devastated and broken hearted beyond any words. Thank you in advance for any well wishes or messages and I will now be taking a social media break."

Christopher ended his post by saying: "Love you Dad with all of my heart.

"REST IN PEACE xx"

Alongside the writing, Christopher added an RIP dad image with a quote which read: "I was never ready for you to leave."

When he was on the X Factor it was clear that Christopher had so much support from his dad Chris who spoke to the Liverpool Echo at the time, saying: "It’s difficult because he has received some unwarranted and negative comments.

"I know Chris is working so hard for every one of them. He’s learning more and getting better as each week passes with the help of Gary Barlow.

"He’ll always be a winner with us."

This family tragedy comes a few months after the singer Christopher had a near death experience after eating a Chinese takeaway.

He was rushed to hospital in an incident which could have left him fighting for his life as a parasite had embedded itself into his large intestine and gave him colitis of the colon and large intestine.

Colitis is a dangerous condition which sees your intestine inflame when your body is trying to process its food.

The star had been eating crispy duck and pancakes and shared that he started to feel unwell about five hours later.

Christopher also suffered a tragic loss in 2019 when his beloved Nana Pat passed away.

Fans of his during his X Factor days will remember how close he was with his Nana Pat who even received a visit from Christopher's mentor on the show, Gary Barlow, before the final.
