Rage Against The Machine have announced that Zack de la Rocha‘s leg injury has forced the band to cancel their North American Tour.

The vocalist and lyricist of Rage Against the Machine said that he has a severe tear in his left Achilles tendon and only 8 percent of it was left intact.

“And even that portion was severely compromised. It’s not simply a question of being able to perform again, but extends to basic functionality going forward,” de la Rocha said in a statement. “That’s why I’ve made the painful and difficult decision to cancel the remaining shows on our 2023 North American leg.”

“I hate cancelling shows. I hate disappointing our fans. You have all waited so patiently to see us and that is never lost on me. I never take that for granted. For you I have the ultimate gratitude and respect,” he added in the emotionally charged note.

Tickets bought online through Ticketmaster or AXS will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment used at the time of purchase once funds are received from the venue, which is usually completed within 30 days. Those who paid cash have been advised to contact the box office directly.

de la Rocha, 52, injured his leg in the middle of a show in Chicago on July 11. Unable to stand on his legs, he continued the rest of the tour by performing while seated.
