Gogglebox star Pete Sandiford emotionally breaks down in tears as show returns

Gogglebox recently made a welcome return to our TV screens and the first episode of the new series proved for emotional viewing as Pete Sandiford broke down in tears.

The latest episode of the hit Channel 4 show aired on Friday 24 February, and showed the cast watching a selection of TV shows including This Morning, Starstruck and Netflix's You.

They also tuned in to watch an episode of The Piano; a new Channel 4 show dedicated to finding the UK's best amateur piano performers, hosted by Claudia Winkleman.

Pete, 28, became tearful as he watched an inspiring blind and neurodiverse teenager performing a complex piece of Chopin music at Leeds railway station.

Lucy, 13, learnt to play the piano by resting her hands on top of her teacher's hands after being diagnosed with cancerous tumours in her eyes when she was younger.

Pete broke down in tears as he turned to Sophie and said: "It's a nice bit of music, isn't it?"

He wasn't the only Goggleboxer to become emotional at the programme with Lee Riley, who appears alongside best pal Jenny Newby, also welling up as Lucy performed on screen.

The emotional scenes aired during Friday evening's episode of Gogglebox, which marked the start of the latest series.

The hit Channel 4 show made a welcome return to screens on 24 February, with all of the usual TV watchers appearing in the show aside from Marcus Luther and Mica Ven, who quit the show in late 2022.

Many Gogglebox stars took to social media to send a message to fans ahead of the new series, including Izzi and Ellie Warner, who posed for a selfie together while sitting on their iconic sofas.

Mum-of-two Izzi captioned the photo: "The countdown is over Gogglebox is back on your screens tonight @channel4 9pm! Hope you're as excited as us #gogglebox #goggleboxready".

Fans were quick to comment on the pair's post, including Emmerdale star Amy Walsh, who wrote: "Yes!!!!!"

Another fan said: "Yay!!!! Can't wait to catch up after work!!!!" while a second added: "Can't wait to watch you two again. You make me laugh."

Gogglebox continues on Friday on Channel 4 at 9pm.
