Meghan Markle wore a Stella McCartney Cape Dress in black for Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral on September 19. This was a poignant decision by the Duchess of Sussex as she already owned the same dress in navy. But what was the story behind Meghan’s black dress?

According to the Instagram page @royalfashionpolice, the Duchess’ funeral outfit was a “last minute order”.

They wrote on Instagram: “Many of you have wondered if the British Royal Family mourning outfits are made in advance or last minute.

“From what I have been told, Meghan’s black cape dress appeared to be a last-minute order.”

The royal fashion expert also commented on the Stella McCartney dress that the Duchess wore for her wedding reception in 2018.

They added: “The Stella dress Meghan wore for her wedding reception, that same lead seamstress along with other seamstresses finished that dress the night before the wedding at 2am.”

What else did Meghan wear for the Queen’s state funeral?

For footwear, the Duchess opted for a pair of Stuart Weitzman Black Tippi Pumps.

These were “black suede pumps with leather heels” according to the website.

The Duchess then opted for a black hat designed by Stephen Jones for Dior.

This hat is a “dramatic hat with a perfectly placed navy grosgrain bow to balance the elongated brim”, according to the website Meghan’s Mirror.

Meghan had actually worn the white version of this hat during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, earlier this year.

The Duchess chose to wear pearl stud earrings, which were gifted to her by the Queen in 2018.

Meghan also chose to accessorise with her favourite Cartier ‘Love’ yellow gold bracelet which she has worn many times before.

For added Hollywood glamour, Meghan could be seen carrying a new pair of Maison Valentino black signature ‘VLogo’ gloves.

At points, the Duchess did put the gloves on to complete her all-black look.

These were leather gloves with VLOGO detail printed on them.

Unfortunately, these gloves are no longer in stock, so it is unclear how much they cost Meghan at the time of purchase.

Twitter user @TvKhaleesi said: “Meghan’s whole look was about the Queen. Talk about being thoughtful.”

Royal fans were happy to hear these new details about Meghan’s funeral look, with Instagram user @jeeepereira commenting: “Wow! Thanks for sharing some amazing details! 2am? I’m shocked!”

Another fan, @traciruark added: “So interesting! I love details like this. Thanks so much!”
