Chef shares ‘game-changer’ mash potato hack that can also be used to make crisps | The Sun

A TV chef left viewers open-mouthed when she revealed her genius hack to make smooth, creamy mash potatoes in seconds.

Not only is the popular food item easy to achieve and requires minimal effort, but the added bonus is that you can even make crisps out of the leftover skin – meaning you get two dishes for the price of one.

Chef Vanessa D’Souza appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Tuesday 19 September when regular host Josie Gibson teamed up with guest presenter Rochelle Humes.

The two stars joined Vanessa for her cooking segment, which took place live from the show’s kitchen.

And as she rustled up her fish finger pie, the foodie said one of the key ingredients was mash potato – and that she had a nifty trick to get it done quickly.

As she made her twist on the classic fish pie, the MasterChef semi-finalist explained that she layers cooked fish fingers with a cheats’ white sauce and vegetables, before topping it with her super quick mash potato.

She then went on to say: “This is the mash potato hack which just saves you so much time.”

Vanessa then demonstrated how to get it done, as she said the first step is to “boil potatoes with the skin on.”

She explained: “Nobody’s got time to peel, but it’s also really inclusive for people who can’t peel or mash with the same level – they might not have the strength.”

She then reached for a cooling rack with a mixing bowl placed directly underneath.

She then said: “You just get a cooling rack that you get for any baking goods, and to cool your cakes.”

Vanessa then smashed the potato onto the metal tray until it fell into the bowl.

The result? Smooth looking mash potato ready to go, with the skin still remaining on the top of the tray.

Josie, 38, and Rochelle, 34, couldn’t believe what they’d just seen, as their jaws dropped and they turned to one another.

As mum-of-three Rochelle said, “oh my gosh,” Josie quickly added: “that is a game changer.”

that is a game changer

But Vanessa wasn’t done there, as she filled viewers in on another foodie favourite of hers.

She explained: “Keep the skins because all you have to do is pop them in the oven with a bit of olive oil and you have some lovely, lovely crisps.”

Rochelle then turned to Vanessa and said: “You know when people say, ‘I’ve got a hack for you?’ That will go viral – that’s the best hack I’ve ever seen.’”

And it seems This Morning fans were in agreement with former Saturdays band member Rochelle, as they flocked to social media to share how impressed they were.

“My life is complete,” one This Morning viewer who was tuning in from home said.
