But it appears there’s a much simpler way of bagging a date that requires almost no effort at all… And it all comes down to your nails.

Taylor Donoghue often uses her social media to share a sneak peek into her life as a 23-year-old living in New York City, US. 

And in one video, she revealed the one change she made in her appearance that led to her getting hit on four times in public. 

Dressed in a grey jumper with her brunette hair styled into a bun, she told viewers: “I don’t even mean to say this in a bragging way…

“Holy s**t, the red nail theory is so accurate.”

Another asked: “What’s the name of the color?” to which TikTok user @taylordonoghuee replied: “I wish I knew it was an OPI dip powder!” 

A third shared: “Met my boyfriend of over a year the day after I got red nails for the first time”. 

While a fourth posted: “UR KIDDING. i’m doing this next week”. 

A fifth said: “Guess I’m getting red nails,” while another added: “LITERALLYYYYY my bf LOVES THEM ON ME”. 

The red nail theory first began when TikTok user @girlbosstown claimed men are attracted to the colour and said that every time she gets her nails done, men comment on it. 

“In the ’90s, when we were growing up, women had red nails a lot, especially like our moms,” she said. 

“I weirdly think guys are attracted to red nails because it reminds them of their moms when they were growing up taking care of them”. 

Red is a colour that usually drives a lot of attention as it’s so striking… 

LECHAT brand educator Syreeta Aaron told newbeauty.com: “It’s said that if you drive a red vehicle, your insurance goes up a little…red lipstick, red dress, and red bottoms are known to be sexy. 

“Red is hot and associated with sexy, and in my opinion, one of the boldest shades in the primary colours. 

“The bottom line is when most people see a nice, bright, red polish on your nails—they’re drawn to the colour, which causes major compliments.”
