CANNED corned beef can be a great resource when cooking your meals – but only if it's properly prepared.

The cheap grocery store item can make for a healthy and delicious meal if you're in a pinch.

Canned corned beef shouldn't be eaten straight from the can as is.

There is a certain amount of preparation that should go into it to make it a better-tasting meal.

One of the steps you can take is to add fresh ingredients.

Eggs, peppers, and onions can quickly spice up the canned dish.

If you want to take a different approach, you could toss in some freshly chopped herbs like dill or cilantro.

You could also opt for chopped scallions or chives.

If you're worried about the high sodium content of the canned corned beef, you can also follow a rinse-and-repeat process to get rid of some of the salt.

Empty the can into a bowl and then add cold water.

Make sure that the meat is evenly spread throughout the bowl to allow the water to infiltrate.

Keep the bowl refrigerated for an hour before rinsing the meat and repeating the process.

But make sure you allow the canned hash to dry out before tossing it into a heated pan with oil.

Similarly, if you're worried about the fat content of the canned hash, there is a way to eliminate some of that as well.

If you boil the can of corned beef hash, removing the in-tact can while it's still hot, you should be able to open it to find fat pooled at the top.

Dump the fat into an aluminum can and let it cool before throwing it away.

Arguably the simplest way to actually cook your corned beef hash is to use an air fryer.

According to Hormel, all you have to do is spray the basket with non-stick spray, add the contents of the can, and let it cook for 15-20 minutes at 370 degrees.

You can also opt to add an egg or two to the top and let it took that way for another four or five minutes.

Remember, corned beef hash isn't just a breakfast meal.
