I put my kids in a box when I need some alone time to get stuff done – other parents shame me but most think it’s genius | The Sun

A MUM has shared her unique way of getting some alone time from her children, as she unveiled her clever ‘box hack’.

And while some fellow parents trolled her and questioned the technique, others hailed it ‘genius’ and said they’d be adopting it in the future.

TikTok user and mum-of-two Gabrielle Lynn Dunn – who describes herself on her profile as “just a mom who thinks she’s funny sometimes” – posted a video online.

And it wasn’t long before the parenting advice had everyone talking.

Gabrielle, whose social media profile can be found at @mrs.gabidunn, explained how she uses an empty box to keep her little ones occupied.

That means she can concentrate on getting her daily chores done, including hoovering.

After Gabrielle spotted the hack on another mum’s social media, which she claimed bought her “30 minutes of unbothered cleaning”, she decided to adapt it for herself.

Gabrielle filmed herself running to get a cardboard box that she’d left out for the rubbish men.

The parent then showed her 14.5k followers how she’d left it in her living room and put her two young kids inside, accompanied with some crayons.

She wrote alongside the video: “PURE GENIUS. Glad we hadn’t broken the box down yet.”

She added a string of hashtags, including #toddlermom #babysitter #momlife and #toddlerhack.

Pretty soon, the video, which has been liked over 1.3 million times, attracted plenty of attention from other parents.

Some blasted the idea and said it was “lazy parenting” and that if the children began drawing on walls as a result, the mum would have nobody else to blame.

One parent questioned: “But do the children remember after where they can draw and where not?”

A second joined in the debate, as they said: “When they get bored and break out and use those crayons on the walls just remember it was your fault.”

Honestly some mom’s are so genius

However, others were completely on board and thanked both mums for sharing their helpful hack.

One wrote: “Honestly some mom’s are so genius.”

A second said: “Genius! My grandmother used to put me in one… now I know why.”

A third added: “Lol I am doing this NOW! Thank you.”

As a fourth wrote: “The simplest thing will make a kid happy, just about imagination.”
