I regret letting my ex name our daughter – I think she hates me for it | The Sun

ONE woman has shared the hilarious story behind the origin of her eldest daughter's name that pays homage to a popular music group.

Though she doesn't regret the name itself and thinks it's a funny origin story, the woman does say letting her ex name her may not have been the best decision.

Real-estate professional Stephanie Teeter shares a candid video that pokes a bit of fun at her family and a popular music group that originated in the 90s.

Apparently, her daughter's father and ex-husband was such a fan that he took it upon himself to dub his daughter a name with an ode to a hip-hop group.

At the start of the video, it's apparent that the self-described tattooed luxury agent is in a stitch with TikTok user @gabbylamby who asks, "Parents, do you ever regret what you named your kid?"

Teeter then goes into a short schpeel about how even though she loves her daughter dearly, if she could go back and change it, she would.

"So, if I could go back, I would probably change my oldest daughter's name," she says towards the beginning of the video.

The funny parent then proceeds to add that she was 22 years old and in the midst of her first marriage when she gave birth to her daughter.

Sharing a bit of parental wisdom, she says in the humor-filled TikTok video that the couple agreed beforehand that if it was a boy she could pick the name, and if it was a girl, her ex-husband could pick their daughter's name.

"And I didn't put more foot down more," she declares.

Teeter then reveals that her eldest daughter's name is Shaolin.

"Not like the monks, but like the Wu-Tang Clan," she admits.

The Wu-Tang Clan received its title through the martial arts film, "Shaolin and Wu Tang."

The Vegas resident also suggests that maybe her daughter resents her or hates her a bit for the name choice.

"But I told her she can change it, so," she says as the video comes to a close.

Many viewers enjoyed the comic relief the video brought and offered their own two cents.

"You gotta be 10 toes down to name ur kid Shaolin so the real question is who’s ur favorite wu- member?" one user inquired.

"That's actually a dope name, way better than just misspelling already known names," another added.

"Shaolin is the Nickname for Staten Island where Wu-Tang clan originated from. I am from Staten Island aka Shaolin and I love love love the name!!!" another praised online.
