The Irish woman said: "Do this one easy thing to save on you're heating bill.

I came up with unusual way to stay warm for free – I never turn heating on

"Think of that in money terms, for every €100 (£80) you spend on heating, €20 (£17) gets sucked out the chimney."

The savvy saver showed off a product she had bought to block her chimney to help prevent heat loss.

Showing it off, she said: "I found the best product to solve the problem, this is not sponsored I bought this myself.

"This is a 'chimney sheep' – it's a chimney plug like no other because it's breathable, it's made out of wool, which is so important for ventilation, but it does prevent the drafts and heat loss."

She added: "Just plug the chimney whenever the fire is not in use and remove it when you want to start a fire."

'Chimney sheep' are available on the Kerry Biofuels website, where they have a range of shapes and sizes to fit any chimney.

The 'chimney sheep' cost between £19 and £30, depending on size.

And it's not the only hack that can help.

Chris Shaw, CEO at Utility Bidder said: "With the colder months closing in, many people will be wanting to heat their homes but with extortionate energy prices looming over our heads, switching the heating on isn’t as straightforward as what it once was.

“We wanted to share some small hacks homeowners can incorporate into their daily lives in the hope that they can heat their homes for longer, without seeing their energy bills increase drastically."

First up, the pros suggest utilising daylight to the max.

"The UK often experiences spells of bright sun throughout the autumn and winter months, so it’s important to use this to your advantage," they said.

"Make sure all curtains and blinds are fully open so that the light projected by the sun can help to heat up different rooms within the house."

It's also important to make sure your furniture is strategically placed around your home.

"To use as little energy as possible, make sure there are no items of furniture such as a sofa in front of the radiator, as this will soak up the majority of the heat," they said.

"Instead, leave the radiators exposed in order for it to heat the whole room."

And don't forget to take full advantage when you have a hot shower.

"Before taking a shower, leave the bathroom door open so that some of the steam and heat warms the surrounding areas of the home, which will hopefully leave you feeling warmer for longer," the pros explained.

Make sure your curtains are not covering the radiators, as this will end up directing the heat towards the window.

Instead, make sure the radiator is exposed by gently placing the curtains behind the radiator, which will help heat the entire room.
