I'm a dog expert & here's the 3 best breeds for families – including the pooch that's destructive but great with kids | The Sun

A LOT of families love the idea of having a dog, but not all breeds are suitable for hectic family life.

That's why a professional dog trainer has shared what he says are the best breeds to welcome into your home if you have kids.

With over 40 years of experience, expert Marc Windgassen shared why he thinks the breeds are good for young kids and busy families, even if some of them might be a bit chaotic before they're trained.

The trainer explained the pros and cons of each breed in his top three on the TikTok account @dogpointusa.

Golden retriever

Marc's first choice is the adorable golden retriever, because of their soft and cuddly nature.

He said: "They're loving, generally good with children, super social, generally friendly, easy to train, and great indoors and outdoors."

That said, the breed is known to shed it's fur a lot, so if you're a bit of a neat freak they might not be the breed for you.

As a puppy, the breed can also be quite destructive, but it's easy enough to train out of them as they get older.

Labrador

Marc says this breed is another great option for energetic families with kids who want a loving fury friend.

That said, he warned that compared to other breeds, Labradors have a higher hunting drive, which means they may not be suitable if you have smaller pets as well.

According to Dogtime.com, Labradors "are often described as one of the most family-friendly dog breeds and are great with children and other pets."

German shepherd

"Known worldwide as the best all-round dog, the German shepherd breed is very loving," Marc said.

Marc told his followers that not only are they generally very good with kids, but they even act like a guardian to young children in many cases.

German shepherds "adapt easily to most situations and changes," the expert added.

The breed is also known to follow it's owner around the house and be incredibly loyal.

The pros from Dogtime describe the breed as being "cherished family pets known for their protective instincts, affectionate nature, and boundless energy.

And "loving companions to those who appreciate their remarkable blend of intelligence and devotion."
