PESTS of all kinds can infiltrate your carefully curated garden and ruin your plants.

If your flowerbeds have become home to ant colonies, there is a simple way to get rid of these unwanted insects.

Martha Stewart suggest spicing up your soil to banish bugs such as ants from your garden.

Hot peppers such as cayenne, chili, or jalapenos contain a compound called capsaicin that induces a burning sensation when an insect eats or touches it.

While the home expert recommends using an essential oil variation of hot peppers, WikiHow has explained how to make a DIY ant spray.

You will need hot pepper flakes or chopped up hot peppers as well as water and dish soap to apply this method.

In a saucepan, combine a gallon of water with 3 tablespoons of pepper flakes or chopped peppers.

Heat the mixture over a high heat and bring to the boil, before letting it simmer for 15 minutes.

Stir the mixture regularly to ensure the fusion of the pepper and water.

Taking care not to let the spicy steam in your eyes, remove the mixture from the heat and let it stand for 24 hours.

Spray the mixture on or near the plants in your garden, re-applying every week or after heavy rainfall.
