I’m a hairstylist and there’s an easy way to tell if you should have long or short hair – it only takes seconds too | The Sun

CHANGING your hairstyle is risky business, there's nothing worse than committing to the big chop only to hate your new look and having to wait months, if not years, for it to grow out.

But one hairstylist shared a hack to tell if you suit long or short hair, and it might just save a lot of tears.

Helen Reavey is a hairstylist to the stars and knows a thing or two about what looks good.

She recently took to Instagram to reveal a simple trick that's perfect for those of us who are completely indecisive when it comes to our locks.

The hair pro said: "All you need is metal straws and a measuring tape."

Although Helen used metal straws you could use anything straight to measure, just hold one straw on the side of your face below your ear vertically, and the other below your chin horizontally so they touch.

I’m a hair stylist & Kate uses a subtle 14p hack to keep her updos perfect

Mark the spot where the straws meet using your hands and measure the distance from the top of the straw, by your ear, to that mark.

Helen explained: "If this is more than two and a quarter inches, you suit long hair.

"If it's less than two and a quarter inches you suit short hair."

She added that hers measured at three inches, so she keeps her locks long.
