I’m a mum-of-eight on benefits and I use foodbanks to feed my kids…now I'm a gran at 40 – it makes me feel so old | The Sun

A MUM-OF-EIGHT who is on benefits and uses foodbanks to feed her kids has become a gran at 40.

Marie Buchan has revealed her oldest daughter, 22, has given birth to a baby boy and it's made her feel old.

Her grandson, who has been named Jayden, was born five weeks ago.

The Birmingham mum made headlines in 2016 after admitting she was "addicted to pregnancy" on the Channel 4 show Only Human.

Marie lives in a housing association property and said it doesn't bother her that her family have to rely on benefits to get by.

But the "Octomum" has since said she is having to use foodbanks to survive amid the cost of living crisis.

Marie claims she struggles getting a job because of the nickname given to her but will continue to have babies despite this.

The 40-year-old has seven girls and one boy between the ages of 10 and 22.

She said it's amazing how the Buchan family will continue to grow now she is a grandmother after she had her first child at 18.

"Becoming a nan is amazing and the Buchan family grows. He is five weeks old now," she told BirminghamLive.

She also appeared on the Channel 5 show Benefits Britain: Life On The Dole where she claimed to work 21-hour days looking after her kids.

Last year, she was reportedly receiving £500 in benefits every week to run her household – that's about £26,000 a year – and has since been dubbed one of Britain's biggest benefit scroungers.

Marie revealed how she has been the victim of online abuse for years and receives dozens of anonymous messages every week.

The mum – who's children all have the same father – says she is currently looking for work.
