WE bet you’ve never thought that a watermelon could be your secret summer saviour when it comes to entertaining your children over the school holidays.

But this is just one of the weird and wonderful ways that mummy blogger and mum-of-one Lily Coco has conjured up to keep her family entertained over the summer holidays.

Lily, who lives in Tennessee, America, has built up a loyal social media following thanks to her handy mum hacks since starting her blog one year ago.

Now Lily, 31, has filled Fabulous in on her top five summer activities with a twist so that other parents can take a leaf out of her book and have lots of fun. And most importantly none of the family fun ideas will break the bank.

Lily says: “There are so many fun activities that you can do together as a family that will keep you busy for hours.”

The social media star, who is a proud mum to her 18-month-old daughter Paisley, continues: “Here are some of our favourites…”

SCAVENGER HUNT

WHAT IS IT? “One of the best summer activities is a family nature scavenger hunt.

“It's a great way to get everyone outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Plus, it's a great opportunity to teach kids about the different flowers, bugs, leaves and stones they can find in nature.”

HOW TO DO IT: “To get started, simply make a list of items for everyone to look for.

“You can even make it a competition to see who can find the most items on the list.

“Just be sure to have everyone put their findings in a bag so you can take them home and display them proudly.

“Who knows, you might even find some new critters living in your own backyard.”

WHAT IS IT? “One of the best things about summer is the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables.

“Watermelons are a particular favourite, and there's nothing quite like enjoying a cold slice on a hot day.

“But why stop at just eating watermelon? Why not turn it into a family activity?

HOW TO DO IT: “Next time you're at the store, pick up an extra watermelon and challenge your family to see who can eat the most slices.

“Then, take some fun pictures together with your water-filled mouths.

“Not only will you create some cherished memories, but you'll also stay cool and hydrated in the process.”
