I'm an etiquette expert – six outfits that are inappropriate for work, women who wear them wouldn't get a job with me | The Sun

NOT KNOWING what is appropriate to wear to work and what isn't can easily land you in hot water with your boss.

And sometimes we get it wrong and pick an outfit that's totally inappropriate for the office.

Etiquette expert, Lucy Challenger, knows exactly what you should be wearing to job interviews and to work.

As the CEO and Founder of Polo & Tweed, a luxury domestic and corporate staffing specialist, Lucy knows what flies and what doesn't when it comes to workwear attire.

She reveals to Fabulous: "Just rocking up in gym clothes while I've made an effort to get dressed won't fly with me, you can get changed in the bathroom.

If I've made an effort and my time is precious you should too."

Lucy adds that if you called up explaining you couldn't change for an interview then it would be okay, but there are some items of clothing that won't fit the bill.

Skinny jeans

Most people don't want to wear jeans on the best of days but if you're someone who likes wearing them for work then listen up.

It all depends on the style and colour of your jeans whether you can wear them to work, explains Lucy.

She said: "Light denim is informal whereas dark colours are smart.

"Straight jeans with a jacket and shirt is acceptable but really skinny jeans creep into leggings territory."

If you must insist on wearing them make sure you wear a long top to cover your bottom so they aren't as revealing.

"I appreciate that some people are ample-bosomed so cleavage can be on display even if you're just wearing a shirt, but be sensitive to the environment you're going in.

"Also don't draw attention to your body, draw attention to your what your saying and be remembered for your attributes rather than anything else."

While you may want to flaunt what your mumma gave you – job interviews and work is not the place to do so.
