I'm glam at 59 and gave myself a Barbie makeover – trolls call me hideous but you're never too old to look good | The Sun

A RETIRED make-up artist spent two hours giving herself a Barbie glam-up to prove you’re never too old to look good.

Jacquie Bruin is about to turn 60 but is four years younger than the iconic doll, which was launched in 1959.

To celebrate that, and the new hit movie, she gave herself a plastic fantastic makeover complete with blonde wig and lipstick.

Jacquie was inundated with praise but was also hit with cruel comments from anonymous trolls as her video racked up more than 47,000 views.

One cruel social media user said: "Oh good grief , wasn't expecting that."

Another insisted: "I prefer the before look the makeup is all wrong."

Meanwhile, a third claimed: "I’m sorry but that wouldn’t even look good on a perfect proportioned 20-year-old."

However, the beauty fanatic's vowed not to let them bother her.

Jacquie, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, said: “I did it because Barbie is a bit older than me.

“I like to inspire older ladies that it’s okay to dress and do your makeup in any way that makes you feel good.

“You shouldn’t have to change who you are just because of your age. Getting older should be celebrated. It’s a privilege not granted to everyone.”

Jacquie hates going anywhere looking less than her best and spends up to two hours getting glammed up to go to the supermarket.

She regularly posts make-up videos on social media (@queenofmakeup) and decided to get involved in Barbiemania.

Jacquie said: “I wasn’t a big Barbie fan when I was younger but I did have one.

“I remember a boy in our street had an Action Man and I used to dress her in his camouflage outfits.

“It was all the hype for the movie that got me interested again, especially the fact that Barbie is 64 years young.”

Jacquie’s followers on social media backed her amazing look but that was alongside criticism from trolls.

She said: “I was happy with the final result. It was my interpretation of Barbie. I still wanted to look like me.

“I got many kind, positive comments, which I truly appreciate. But of course there were a few vicious, nasty comments, which I expected. No time for vicious, nasty people. Never let anyone rain on your parade.”

Jacquie deals with a loads of horrible messages from trolls and been called “hideous” and “ugly”. She admitted she finds it hard to ignore.

She said: “I do answer them. Why would I let a complete stranger insult me? If you don’t like how I look just scroll by.

“I don’t need your opinion and I am not interested in it. Trolls need to be made aware of how damaging and life destroying their comments can be.

“I am strong enough to deal with them but not everyone is like me.”

Jacquie spent 17 years as a makeup artist running her company Looking Good Makeup.

She says her signature look is an “overdrawn lip” and sometimes she’s not ready to leave the house until lunchtime.

Jacquie said: “I like to look good because it also makes me feel good.

“I can spend up to two hours doing my makeup. I love shutting myself away with my makeup and brushes and getting creative

“I do leave the house without makeup but prefer to have it on, it’s part of who I am.”

She added: “I can’t see me ever changing. If I am blessed with a long life then I will be the old lady who still wears her bright red lipstick and makes her own style statement.”
