I’ve lived with no heating for years, here are my tips for staying warm – we stopped drawing the curtains for a start | The Sun

WINTER is around the corner and if you are worried about bills, there could be some money-saving tricks you could try.

TikTok user Rebecca, who posts under @the.intentional.mum, uploaded a video saying she lived without central heating in her house for years.

She uploaded a video saying: “Here's how we get through the winter.”

Rebecca explained: “It is possible to get through an entire winter without putting the central heating on.

“I know this is something that people are really worried about at the moment with energy bills being through the roof.

“Here are some of the things we did that may not be for everyone but they did work for us.”

All sleep in the same room

Rebecca explained: “The first one is that we all slept in the same room.

“We did have me, my husband and my toddler in the same room and that meant we only had to heat one bedroom.”

Use radiators for the minimum time possible

Instead of using central heating, Rebecca said she used an “efficient, smart radiator.”

She said she put it on for “the minimum amount of time where we needed to raise the temperature of a room at bedtime and first thing in the morning.”

The mum continued: “We tried to limit the use of that as much as possible.

“We also have a multi-fuel stove downstairs that we would use in as much of an efficient way that we could to heat the downstairs of our house.”

Blankets are your best friend

Rebecca said she used blankets everywhere around the house to keep snug.

She said: “Blankets on the bed, blankets on the sofa, blankets are your new best friend.

“And then it is sensible things like keeping curtains closed, keeping doors closed, trying to keep the heat in the rooms that you are heating as much as possible and not letting it escape.

“It’s not great, it’s probably not what you want to do, but you can do it.”

She explained that she acknowledges she is a privileged position having a house, and didn’t have central heating due to renovating it.

Many people were quick to chime in with their views.

One said: “We had no central heating when I grew up. My mum kept the living room warm with a gas fire.hot water bottle in the bed.”

Rebecca replied, saying: “It's definitely possible to stay warm without having CH blasting all day. I love a hot water bottle to stay cosy.”
