ALL of us have looked in the mirror at some point and realised we’ve got dark circles under our eyes.

Luckily for us there are ways to minimise their appearance and get rid of them, even if you can’t manage to get a good night’s sleep.

Speaking to goodto.com,a numer of skin experts gave their tips on how to get rid of those pesky dark circles.

What causes dark circles?

The most common cause for dark circles forming under your eyes is lack of sleep.

Lack of sleep can make you paler, explains dermatologist Dr. Mary Sommerlad "meaning dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin show more easily."

This isn’t the only reason dark circles can form, aesthetic practitioner Genevieve Knodell, who specialises in laser and light skincare adds that sun damage can also cause this.

She says: “Dark circles can be caused by hyperpigmentation from sun damage and show up as epidermal pigment around the eye area.”

They can also form if you have low iron levels and suffer from anaemia.

How to avoid dark circles forming

To avoid dark circles experts recommend getting more sleep, eating a vitamin rich diet, staying hydrated and adopting a good skincare routine.

Some of these such as getting a good night’s sleep may be difficult and somewhat unrealistic for your lifestyle, so luckily for those of you for whom that’s the case there are ways to get rid of these.

How to get rid of dark circles

There are plenty of methods for getting rid of dark circles, and with these treatments ranging in prices there’s something suited to every budget.

Chemical peel

According to Genevieve a chemical peel is one of the best ways to restore and  rejuvenate skin under the eyes, as usually they contain acid that helps with sun damage and helps strengthen skin.

She says: “Opt for specific peels designed to treat the delicate eye area that will deliver brighter, more even skin tone, and reduce the appearance of dark circles, fine lines and instantly refresh the concerned area.”

"The less layers of pigment in the skin the lighter it will become. So, by stimulating cell turnover and peeling away the dead damaged layers to reveal new skin, it will help even skin tone and lighten pigment to a degree."
