DEAR DEIDRE: I WAS horrified to discover that my son is dating a girl who is only 14.
For months now she has lied to all of us including our son, who thought she was 17.
My son is 18 and autistic. He has the mental age of someone much younger. I’m his 48-year-old dad.
This girl begged our son to stay with her.
He stated that she “loves him”, and that is why she lied.
He says he won’t find someone like her for a long time, so he continues to see her despite her manipulation.

They insist they haven’t been intimate.
Apparently her mum is fine with them being together, but I’m not.
How do I approach this without driving our son away.
I’m sick with worry.

DEIDRE SAYS: Relationships and underage sex can be extremely difficult.
Your son’s much more likely to listen to you if you stress his safety is your main concern.
His girlfriend is simply not ready for the risks and responsibilities of a sexual relationship at her age.
Stress that she’s legally underage so he could be prosecuted.
My support pack on Troubles With Teenagers will help.
