‘Day Of The Fight:’ Jack Huston’s Directorial Debut Starring Joe Pesci To Open Raindance Film Festival

Day Of The Fight, the directorial debut of actor Jack Huston, has been set as the opening film of the 31st edition of the Raindance Film Festival, running October 25 — November 4.

The film will screen as part of the opening ceremony at Curzon Mayfair Cinema in London.

Directed by Huston from a screenplay he also wrote, the pic follows Mikey, a once-celebrated boxer, who, on the day of his first fight since leaving prison, takes a redemptive journey through his past and present, putting his own life at risk due to a medical condition only he knows about. Over the course of the day, Mikey visits influential figures from his life, encouraging him to overcome his checkered past.

Synopsis reads: After a fight for the ages at Madison Square Garden, a twist of events reveals that this day was never really about boxing for Mikey. This is an underdog story built on introspection, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness, which asks the question: how far are we willing to go for the ones we love?

The film debuted to a warm and extended reception in the Horizons Extra section of Venice earlier this month. In a review out of Venice, Deadline’s Damon Wise said Huston “packs an emotional punch with his directing debut.”

Day of the Fight has a soulful charm, an artful attempt to find images that match Jackson C. Frank’s haunting lyrics for “Blues Run The Game”: “Maybe tomorrow, honey / Someplace down the line … I’ll wake up older and I’ll just stop all my trying…’” the review read.

Cast features Michael C. Pitt, Nicolette Robinson, John Magaro, Anatol Yusef, Steve Buscemi, Ron Perlman, and Joe Pesci. CAA Media Finance is handling sales on the pic.
