Boots

Boots announced earlier this year its plans to close a total of 300 stores that aren’t meeting financial targets.

A Boots spokesperson explained: “Evolving the store estate in this way allows Boots to concentrate its team members where they are needed and focus investment more acutely in individual stores with the ambition of consistently delivering an excellent and reliable service in a fresh and up-to-date environment.”

Boots stores closing in 2024:

• Plymouth – four pharmacies set to close in January

• Guildford Road, Woking – end of October
• Gorleston, Great Yarmouth – November
• High Row, Darlington – November 3
• Mudge Way, Plymouth – November 18

Homebase

The retailer currently has 153 locations across the UK. Homebase was taken over by Hilco Capital in 2018 and has closed 93 stores since.

Homebase permanently closed its branches in Banbury and Finchley Road, in London, earlier this month.

Asda

It’s not all bad news for shoppers as Asda is set to open 34 brand new Asda Express sites across the UK next year. The majority of supermarkets will be located at petrol stations.
