The post read: ‘I (20M) was hanging out with my twin, his girlfriend, and our common friends group to get drinks.

‘My brother’s relationship is still fairly new and I only met his girlfriend twice before. I jokingly ask her if I’m as handsome as my brother and she replies that I’m not really her type.’

However, this response didn’t satisfy him, so he accused the woman of lying.

He added: ‘I tell her she must be lying considering that I look almost identical to her boyfriend, however, my brother tells me that I can stop showing off now. ‘

And while he said he thought everyone knew he was attempting to make ‘a bit of banter,’ his brother was quick to express his frustration.

‘My brother confronted me afterward about me trying to show him up and trying to flirt with his girl,’ the original poster wrote.

‘I told him again that I was just bantering with her, but he didn’t believe me and he’s still mad at me.’

He noted that he had consulted friends about the situation and the responses had been mixed.

The 20-year-old added: ‘Some of my friends do believe my brother is just unreasonably jealous of me, however others think I may have made his girlfriend uncomfortable (even though she didn’t look like she was while we were talking) and I should apologize to both of them.’

At the end of the post, he questioned if he was an ‘a**hole.’

People flooded the comments section and slammed the 20-year-old for making a bad joke that left his brother’s girlfriend uncomfortable.

One person said: ‘Hard to imagine you’re not someone’s type with such a winning personality and a clear respect for other people… you’re the a**hole.’

Someone else commented: ‘Exactly. Also, her “type” is probably not solely based on looks, so nice, not lying! You are the a**hole. Yes, you owe them both an apology.’

Another user added: ‘Can OP comprehend that looks alone do not a relationship make?’

‘I would be so weirded out if my new boyfriend’s sibling asked if they were my type, it’s clearly a flirty question. You’re the a**hole,’ someone else said.

One user wrote: ‘I’ve met twins, and the idea of this scenario is described as a literal nightmare by them. I couldn’t imagine leaning into it like this.

‘Sounds like you poked fun at your brother who might have this insecurity which is very very reasonable.’

Someone else added: ‘You’re the a**hole. Looks are not the defining factor of being attractive to someone yes probably a main factor at first glance, but as soon as you see someone’s personality that can change someone’s opinion, why should your brother’s girlfriend find you attractive, mostly why does her not [finding you attractive] bother you so much?’

‘You’re the a**hole. It’s weird that you feel the need to compare yourself to your twin. Stop doing that. Stop competing with your brother and go find your own girlfriend,’ one comment read.

Many people branded the man an a**hole over his ‘weird’ behaviour

‘If I was the girlfriend I would be soooo uncomfortable.’ another user commented.

‘You’re the a**hole because why would you even bring that up? Sounds like you are the jealous one,’ one person said.

Someone else added: ‘Why on earth would he be jealous of you? He looks like you and he’s the one with the girlfriend, not you. You’re the one who’s jealous. You’re the a**hole.’

‘You’re the a**hole. Women are attracted to personality. Looks and such are secondary. She was clearly telling you that your attitude, behaviors and personality are a turn off. Given the arrogance of your post, I agree with her. Eww,’ one comment read.

‘You’re the a**hole – this post makes it painfully obvious why you are not her type. It’s not all about looks,’ another person wrote.
