A woman who spent twenty years saving up for her wedding has married herself after never finding the right guy.

Sarah Wilkinson, 42, shared her story on BBC Radio Suffolk, where she explained how she ‘got to be a princess for the day’.

The bride got married at Harvest House, Felixstowe, surrounded by 40 of her family and friends in the day, with an additional 40 in the evening.

According to the BBC, she forked out £10,000 on the occasion and wrote 14 vows for herself to honour.

She explained that it began when she hit 40 and wanted to buy herself an engagement ring: ‘I’ve always wanted to wear the rock on the finger, it’s always been a thing’.

It spiralled from there and led to the credit controller buying a wedding dress and just deciding to go ahead with the whole day without a partner.

She said ‘I hit 40 and was like, hmm, there’s not really any prospects about at the moment, we’ll give it a year and see what happens and then I’m just going to buy my own engagement ring.

‘I’ve been saving for a long time for my wedding day and when you get to the point where you’re like, actually I might not have this with a partner by my side, I was like well why should I miss out on it anyway just because I don’t have that?’

‘At the end of the day it costs what it costs, I was slightly naïve as to how much it would actually be but at the end of the day that money was reserved for my wedding.’

She continued ‘Everyone was really pleased, no one stopped smiling all day and everybody said what an amazing time they had. It couldn’t have worked out any better.

Nearly all of her friends said ‘that is such a Sarah thing to do’ with all of them supporting her.

Although, she admitted ‘there were a couple of people that were concerned to begin with and that were like oh god, are you alright?’

When asked if she’s given up on finding the man of her dreams, it was a firm no as she explained she ‘never did. It was just a case of giving up on looking’.
