I refuse to attend my sister-in-law’s wedding because of her stupid dress code: ‘It could kill me but she thinks I’m being selfish’

A bride has been shamed for demanding her guests adhere to an ‘unreasonable’ and ‘potentially fatal’ dress code for her mid-summer daytime wedding.
Lisa*, a soon-to-be mum, revealed that her husband’s sister, 36, was getting married and asked all her guests to dress in long sleeved, floor-length gowns for a black tie wedding in the middle of the day.
The family is located in the southern United States where the average summer temperature is 33C.
‘I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and overheat very quickly – and the wedding is entirely outside in the middle of the day, where it is incredibly hot. I cannot be in a long sleeve, floor-length gown in the heat for eight hours,’ the 25-year-old wrote.
Lisa caused a stir by telling the bride she could not attend the wedding if she refused to compromise on the dress code because she had to ‘look out for [her own] health’.

Lisa originally tried to compromise by sending the bride several options of dresses she could wear – but they were either ‘only ankle length’ or ‘not formal enough’ for the wedding.
‘[My sister-in-law] he is adamant about exactly what she wants. I told her yesterday that I cannot attend her wedding if she is not going to budge even slightly on the dress code.
‘She has the right to have her wedding exactly how she wants it, for it to be her perfect day, but I have the right to look out for my own health.’
Lisa then revealed that her SIL ‘freaked out’ and called her ‘selfish’ for refusing to attend the wedding.
‘She told me that ‘for once it isn’t about me and my f**king baby’ – which she only said because she’s jealous I’m having the first grandchild and she felt like she should have had a baby before me and my husband,’ the soon-to-be-mum shared.
Several of Lisa’s in-laws want her to ‘compromise for one day’ in order to ‘keep the peace’ but Lisa and her husband have chosen to abstain from the wedding in protest.
‘I don’t think I should need to compromise my health for her wedding,’ Lisa said finally.

Thousands agreed with Lisa and slammed the bride for her ‘cruel’ behaviour.
‘There is no way I would be able to adhere to her dress code. I just went outside in a t-shirt and a jeggings in 25C and I was overheating and I wasn’t out for eight hours,’ a pregnant woman said.
Another wrote, ‘I absolutely would have RSVP’d no to this one for the same reasons! If they wanted it to be outside, they should have made more allowances on the sleeves. If they wanted sleeves, they should have had it indoors in air-conditioning.’
‘With overheated people drinking alcohol … I hope they’ve got an ambulance on standby!’ a man noted.
Several also pointed out that ‘black tie’ attire was completely inappropriate for the event.
‘Black tie is for the evening. This bride thinks she’s being so super elegant but she’s actually committing a major faux pas. And the most an invitation should say is ‘black tie’ – any further instructions are just rude,’ a woman revealed.
