‘I’m a glam gardener – trolls call hot pants attention-seeking but I don’t care’

Many of us do the gardening in clothes we don't mind getting dirty – but Lucie Nicola loves getting glammed up to prune her plants.

The mum-of-two, 40, regularly wears hot pants and sequins when she's tending to her lawn.

And she takes no notice when people call her "attention seeking".

The Essex lass, from Birchanger, explained: "Most people would go out in old clothes.

"But my garden makes me so happy and brings me so much joy, I want to feel as beautiful as the plants I'm planting.

"Feeling great about myself makes my garden more beautiful and makes me perform better.

"I've had comments saying I 'walk up and down like a catwalk', or people asking 'why does she feel the need to wear these clothes?'.

"Some people just think it's more for attention than doing what I'm doing. But so many people think it's great, showing people gardening is for all ages."

Lucie runs her own mobile soft play business and is also a published model.

She lives with her entrepreneur husband Andy, 46, and their two kids – Abbie, 16, and Jack, 13.

Lucie has been green-fingered since she was just seven years old and believes she's splashed out around £5,000 on her current garden.

The businesswoman spends hours every day in her green spaces, which she works hard to maintain.

She explained: "I'm out there every single day and can't relax until it's tidy, I'll make it look tidy all through the year.

"My children have grown up with their mum being a freak in the garden so it's not like I just started something new.

"My husband loves it. I've converted a non-gardener into gardening."

Lucie now runs an Instagram page, where she offers her tips and tricks to fellow horticulture fans.

She added: "I'm known as the lady who is always in her garden.

"I just want to be known as a glamour gardener, and I want to make people feel like they can feel lovely in their garden.

"I want to make gardening sexy, fun and interesting, and you can definitely make your garden look pretty on a budget."
