Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones was seen by millions as a fair-haired eight year old bridesmaid, stood on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton at their wedding in 2011.
Fast-forward 12 years, and Lady Margarita, the granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth's sister Princess Margaret, is all grown-up – a 20 year old glamorous beauty who has recently made her debut into high-flying London society as she attended Tatler's Little Black Book party in November, 2022.
Debutante balls date as far back as the 18th century, and it's where a young woman of aristocratic or upper-class family background who has reached maturity makes her entrance into society, meaning Margarita certainly fit the bill at Tatler's party.
Lady Margarita stunned as she attended the event, which was also attended by the likes of Princess Diana's twin nieces, Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer, in an outfit that bore resemblance to an ensemble once worn by her grandmother, Princess Margaret, who died when she was just two months old.
The daughter of Princess Margaret’s son, David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowden, and Serena Armstrong-Jones, Countess of Snowden, wore a slinky silver bejewelled dress from the Michael Kors Collection with a glamorous white faux fur coat that she wrapped around her arms to show off her shoulders.
She looked demure with her blonde hair styled in loose curls as she donned a pair of silver earrings and strappy black heels to complete the look as she posed alongside society's finest, such as Eve Wright, The Hon and Delphi Primrose, The Hon.
Princess Margaret, herself, wore a similar look to the premiere of Captain Horatio Hornblower in 1951 at the age of 21. She sported a sparkling dress, from the same designer, with a white fur stole and satin gloves, so it was easy to see where 20 year old Margarita got her inspiration from.
According to Tatler: "Margarita was the belle of last night's ball: she spent the evening dancing with cousins Robert Armstrong-Jones and Samuel Chatto, and her friends, until the early hours. All the girls wanted to be her and all the boys wanted to be with her."
So what was Margarita Armstrong-Jones doing in the lead up to her society debut?
Early life and passions
Lady Margarita was born on 14 May, 2002, the youngest daughter of David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowden, and his ex-wife Serena Armstrong-Jones, Countess of Snowden. She shares the same Great-grandparents as Princes William and Harry – the late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and King George VI.
She attended the Garden House School in Chelsea, London and was also a student at St Mary’s School in Ascot which is also attended by Lady Louise Windsor, the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
Lady Margarita has already shown an interest in the fashion world and aged 14, she attended the Dior Cruise show at Blenheim Palace and modelled in aid of Kids Company in an event organised by Chelsea Ballet Schools.
Her main Instagram account is private, but the profile picture shows a sweet snap of her as a youngster alongside a young boy, who appears to be her brother Charles, now 23, sat in the back of a classic car with the roof down next to a country house.
On her Instagram bio, there are links to two Instagram pages which show off her two main passions: photography and jewellery making.
The one dedicated to photography is named Atira Photos, with 914 followers, show's Margarita's keen eye for photography, showing a number of artistic shots she's captured in London and on her travels.
Lady Margarita's paternal grandfather Tony Armstrong-Jones also had a passion for photography which has clearly been inherited by his granddaughter.
Her other Instagram account, Matita Jewellery, which is followed by 1018 people, features a number of snaps of 'handmade jewellery', including silver rings, earrings and necklaces.
Royal appearances
Lady Margarita attended the State Funeral of her Great-Aunt Queen Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey on 19 September, 2022, alongside her father and brother, Charles. She wore an elegant black lace dress with a full skirt and a netted mourning veil, which is worn by many royals at the funeral of a relative.
She also attended the 2018 wedding of her second-cousin Princess Eugenie to Jack Brooksbank at St George's Chapel with her father and brother, as well as Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle in April of 2018.
Lady Margarita and her father David Armstrong-Jones have also often been invited to spend Christmas with the royals at Sandringham, including attending the annual Christmas Day service at St. Mary Magdalene church on the estate.
She is also a regular at the Royal Ascot, a favourite event of the late Queen, who Margarita was seen chatting amiably with in 2018, when she was around 16 years old.
