King Charles promotes 'hunky' aid to 'super equerry'

King Charles promotes ‘hunky’ aid Lt Col Johnny Thompson to ‘super equerry’ making him the Monarch’s right-hand man

King Charles has promoted his ‘hunky’ aid to the position of ‘super equerry’, making him now the monarch’s right-hand man.

Lt Col Johnny Thompson, who is famed for appearing alongside the royals in a kilt, was ‘due to leave the Army within 18 months’, ending his role as an equerry, an insider told The Sun.

But he will soon be tasked with organising Charles’ private affairs after being promoted from equerry to ‘super equerry’. Thompson, 40, received his promotion after he reportedly charmed the King and Queen Camilla.

Thompson, who lives in Surrey, first won over fans after he was spotted at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, prompting royal watchers to brand him a ‘hunk’. Since then, he had made further appearances, including attending the King’s coronation.

The insider alleges that with Thompson’s new promotion, ‘people will be seeing a lot more of him’, adding that Charles pulled a ‘decent trick by picking a social media sensation to be his right-hand man’.

Thompson, of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, is an equerry – an officer of the royal household who assists members of the royal family.

Thompson’s role as an equerry involves assisting the King with his daily duties, standing beside him at public events and looking after the monarch’s carriages, coaches, and Rolls-Royces used at state ceremonies.

Once the Queen’s most senior bodyguards, he now serves His Majesty and was seen proudly standing next to King Charles’ side during the Coronation.

He will now take on the role of ‘super equerry’ and serve as the King’s ‘right-hand man’, sources have told The Sun. MailOnline has approached Buckingham Palace about the report.

It comes after Thompson earlier this year made third place on Tatler’s Social Power Index, which details where the ‘real power lies in Britain’.

The father-of-one, known to friends as ‘Johnny’ and on TikTok as ‘Major Eye Candy,’ was included on the prestigious list just behind King Charles and Queen Camila (at number one), and billionaire businessman Sanjay and his fashion designer wife Anu Hinduja (at number two).

The dashing equerry has cemented himself as one of the influential names to know in the UK, the publication said at the time.

According to Tatler, Johnny has a ‘fabulous sense of humour’ and has the ability to look as good in a suit as he does a kilt.

They wrote: ‘It is from within the palace walls that the King’s equerry wields his unique brand of quiet, charming power; but he’s spotted where it counts, at the coronation, or on the opening night of the Berntson Bhattacharjee Gallery in Fitzrovia, for example, to which he wore a bunny tie and charmed India Rose James.’

During May’s coronation, viewers rushed to social media to discuss not just the crowning of the monarch but the very handsome man by his side.

‘Must admit there were times when I was a bit distracted today,’ one tweeted.

‘Major Jonathan Thompson is why we watch the coronation,’ another added. ‘Look at his beauty and his thick calves too.’

Other admirers also couldn’t help but point out the army officer’s striking good looks as another fan wrote: ‘Anyone else clocked the dashing chap in the kilt?’

The officer became an object of royal watchers’ affections last year after he was thrust front-and-centre at historic royal events following the Queen’s death.

He was caught on camera calmly and coolly removing a pen tray which was cluttering the King’s desk, as Charles signed the Proclamation which named him as the monarch.
