Mike Tindall has proved that even the royal family has been captivated by Barbie fever in a hilarious Instagram post to celebrate his wedding anniversary.

The former rugby pro, 45, paid tribute to his wife of 12 years, Zara, 44, on social media yesterday – but instead of posting a wedding photo, he hopped on a trend taking the internet by storm.

Using an AI tool, father-of-three Mike created a graphic which superimposed Zara’s face onto Barbie, while emulating his own appearance in a version of Ken.

The hilarious post, marking 12 years since the couple married at Canongate Kirk in Scotland, was created using the Barbie selfie generator.

Accompanying the photo, he wrote: ‘Thanks for the messages, it’s been a great 12 years. Feel we are getting younger!!!’ He added the hashtag #ZarbieandTen.

The photos show Mike, who has a shaved head in real life, with a full head of thick blonde hair styled in a quiff.

He struts forwards while wearing a beige suit and a white shirt with a collar – buttoned down to show off his ripped chest.

The ‘Ten’ figurine prompted Mike’s former teammate Ben Cohen to leave a comment under the photo saying: ‘You wish you had that lid.’

Meanwhile ‘Zarbie’, who also displays thick blonde hair which flows down her back, poses in dark grey leggings and a pink gilet.

The post left people in stitches as they wished the couple a happy wedding anniversary, while also laughing at the Barbie-fied versions of them.

Natalie Pinkham, a close friend of the couple who was once a confidante of Prince Harry, wrote: ‘Couple of absolute sorts’ accompanied by the fire emoji.

Zara and Mike aren’t the only royals to have been reimagined as Barbie and Ken in anticipation of Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster movie, which was released last month.

Another AI generator recently added a touch of sparkle to other royals including King Charles and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Zara and Mike married in a lavish ceremony in Edinburgh in 2011, surrounded by members of the royal family.

There were crowds of well-wishers for Scotland’s first royal wedding in 20 years and Queen Elizabeth was guest of honour. But there were no television cameras for what remained – just about – a private occasion.

Zara wore a full-length ivory silk gown with silk tulle detail, designed by the Queen’s favourite couturier Stewart Parvin.

The full veil, also made of silk tulle, was held back from her face as she held a stunning large white bouquet, studded with thistles in a nod to the location, by Mayfair florist Paul Thomas. On her feet were an elegant pair of Jimmy Choo shoes.

Her bridesmaids – Jaz Jocelyn, the daughter of a family friend; the best man’s daughter Hope Balshaw; Zara’s half-sister Stephanie Phillips; and Mrs Maude’s daughter Nell – wore off-white dresses with a simple bow by local dressmaker Sue Palmer. Pageboy Ted Maude, Zara’s godson, delighted the crowd in a traditional Balmoral tartan kilt.
