Mike Tindall is well-known for his close bond with Kate and William, the Prince and Princess of Wales. The husband of Zara Tindall has been an incredibly popular addition to the Royal Family ever since he married Princess Anne’s daughter in 2011.

Mike has frequently spoken out about the bond he shares with his royal relatives on his podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby and provided a behind-the-scenes insight into life behind palace walls.

Zara and Mike share a particularly close bond with the Prince and Princess of Wales and are often pictured laughing together at family events.

The ex-England rugby pro has shared many stories over the years about Prince William and Kate – including the funny nicknames he has for the couple.

He also joked about wanting to make fun of Kate’s rugby skills after she became the patron of the Rugby Football Union, shared the interest that Prince George and his eldest daughter Mia share and spoke about the regrets he has now that the Queen has passed away.

Mike is often pictured joking with Prince William in public and it is clear the pair are incredibly close as their relationship is something royal fans on social media frequently talk about.

One popular tweet read: “I absolutely love the relationship Prince William and Mike Tindall have – the [Waleses] and Tindalls always have so much fun together.”

Mike has shared details of their bond before on his podcast and in other TV interviews.

In one light-hearted chat about who was the faster runner, Mike said: “Willy’s quick. I’ve raced him, he’s quick, he has really fast leg speed.”

The close bond between the couples has been seen before when Mike shared he wanted to mock Kate for her rugby skills after she was made the new patron of the Rugby Football Union, but had to ultimately concede that she made the sport look “effortless”.

Mike said on the podcast: “I text Ellis [Genge] (Leicester Tigers) and said ‘mate, please tell me anything she messed up on’ so I could sort of, family WhatsApp group, get into her. And he said ‘No she was actually pretty good, and she was really good at kicking’ and I was like…”

Zara’s husband then gave a huge sigh and quipped: “But she has this competitive nature where she has to be good at things.” Co-presenter Alex Payne then agreed, saying: “She looked unbelievably natural.”

He then added: “Just imagine, anyone who’s ever tried it, getting thrown up in the line-out if you’ve never done it before is not easy because normally, you’ll kick the prop in either the nuts or the face as he’s lifting you and she just looked effortless.”

Judi James, a body language expert previously spoke to Express.co.uk about the relationship between Prince William and Mike Tindall.

She said: “The poses between William and Mike are a joy to look at, mainly because an often rather cautious and thoughtful William is so clearly delighted and relaxed in the company of his cousin and her husband and because they both clearly adore him and enjoy watching him trade the banter in a way that looks even more fun than it used to when he and Harry were close.

“William looks more like the excited kid, pretending to have a go at Mike, pointing one stabbing finger and placing the other hand on his own chest as though pretending to bring up some form of a gripe or recrimination.

“He mimics anger in a very humorous way, baring his teeth to suggest an attack, but smiling at the same time.

“Mike joins in by pretending to recoil, with both hands up, but there is a real sense here who is the natural alpha in this relationship, with William often looking like a secret fan of the super-confident and fearless ex-rugby star.

“Zara is clearly enjoying the mock battle too, grinning as she stands watching.

“The hug at the end really does seem to put fun to one side and show signs of a strong friendship between the two men that is especially valued by William, who looks rather in need of the embrace, putting both arms around Mike’s back to signal closeness and even burying his head in Mike’s neck in a way that hints Mike might be a provider of support as well as banter in William’s life.”
