Millions of Brits risk broadband price rise ahead of Black Friday sales

Black Friday falls on November 25 which means many deals will be cropping up online.

As it's the biggest sales event of the year, Brits can find themselves saving money on mega offerings.

Now experts are warning households to check their broadband contracts ahead of Friday.

Most of the UK's biggest Internet Service Providers slash prices to lure customers, but it's not always a good thing.

It often happens each November and it means broadband users may find their current deals coming to an end.

Almost all ISPs demand new customers sign up to two-year deals and anyone out of a contract could be in for a shock.

Once their initial offer ends from Black Friday 2020, prices automatically rise and some hikes can be huge.

Virgin Media is currently offering broadband for just £27 per month, but as soon as it's over, it could be £56 per month.

Unless you check direct debits, it's easy to miss these huge price hikes.

If your deal is expiring soon, there are plenty of new offers which have gone live in this year's Black Friday sales.

TalkTalk is dishing out Amazon Prime for a whole year, while Plusnet is giving away gift cards worth up to £75.

These deals will need to be out of your current promotion so it's worth checking your paperwork first.

Telecoms expert at Uswitch.com Catherine Hiley said: "Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping events of the year for retailers and a time when they bring out some of their best deals.

"Savvy shoppers can grab a bargain on their broadband, mobiles and TV packages, so long as they know what they're looking for."

She added: "Don't forget that Black Friday now extends far beyond one day, and you can expect plenty of providers to be offering discounts ahead of the November 25.

"Keep an eye out for deals now and monitor any changes in price so you're ready to pounce."
