Pub staff have a difficult job – pulling pints, keeping up with customer demand and, unfortunately, dealing with unacceptable behaviour from punters.

Often if someone is barred from a pub, it’s likely the staff had good reasons for kicking them out – however others might be left feeling a sense of injustice after being asked to leave for more trivial reasons.

UK pub customers have shared the more ridiculous reasons they have been booted out of pubs on a Reddit thread, after one man claimed a bouncer had planted cocaine on him before asking him to leave the premises.

The 25-year-old unnamed man explained that he had been kicked out of a pub in Durham by bouncers for ‘doing drugs’ when he insists that he doesn’t go near illegal substances.

After reading the story on the subreddit r/AskUK other Redditors reckoned they could find much more unfair reasons they were asked to leave a pub – and some are downright bizarre.

A 25-year-old man who went out with friends in Durham firstly explained how he had been unjustifiably kicked out of a pub for ‘doing drugs’

The 25-year-old wrote: ‘[The bouncer’s] reasoning was that my £5 note had traces of cocaine on it, despite the fact it never left my pocket the entire time. He took me to an outside wooden table that clearly had left over coke on it, and claimed I was snorting it on this specific table.’

He continued: ‘I don’t argue with bouncers because they think they’re right 100% of the time.

‘I also got kicked out a pub because I look like a guy who’s barred out of the same pub. This one I understand as both myself and the other guy look like brothers – people often get mixed up between us.’

The man then asked fellow Reddit members if they have had similarly ‘ridiculous’ reasons for being kicked out of a pub.

The post, which has 2.1K upvotes and 1.8K comments, had people itching to share their side-splitting, entertaining and downright unjustified experiences of being escorted from an establishment.

One person shared: ‘We found a dead crayfish with its shell on the dancefloor at Lava Ignite in Edinburgh. Spent the evening trying to place it in the handbags of people that weren’t looking.

‘Bit of harmless, crustacean spiking in the noughties. So strange in hindsight.’

Another wrote: ‘Was out with my fiancée on a Saturday night. Both popped out to the smokers area of a small bar for some air. It was cold so I wrapped my blazer around my girlfriend.

‘Bouncer came over and kicked me out because apparently “that was enough,” claiming I was harassing her.’

Reddit members flock to the comments section to share their hilarious and unfortunate experiences of being kicked out of pubs

One user said: ‘Was in a pub once and got asked for my birthdate by an off duty copper. I told him and then he asked what year, so I told him “every year” then I got kicked out for underage drinking.’

Another Reddit member who had also been booted out for ‘underage drinking’ shared their experience.

They said: ‘A long time ago I got kicked out of my local (for one night only) for celebrating my 18th birthday. The reason being I’d been drinking there for a good two years before this.’

One baffled commenter revisited his friend’s strange experience of being removed unjustifiably, saying: ‘My mate once got chucked out our local pub cos he had the nerve to call the bartender “chap.” Bloke went nuts, “Don’t f****** call me chap! Get out!” was the response.

‘That was 25 years ago and to this day I still struggle to understand why that was so offensive.’

One member, whose barring was much more understandable, used an outdated term to address a barmaid in a pub and suffered the consequences from doing so.

He said: ‘Was walking into town with a mate and passed a pub. He said watch this. We walk into the pub and he walks up to the barmaid and says “a pint of your finest ale bar wench” – not sure it was ridiculous but it was quick.’

Those who commented on the well-received Reddit post are not the only ones to have been kicked out of a pub for non-illegal reasons.

An 89-year-old pensioner from Sheffield was kicked out of pub in 2012 whilst out celebrating her birthday – for flouting no hat policy with knitted beret.
