Princess Eugenie, the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, is celebrating her 33rd birthday today. A voice analyst spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk to explain what Eugenie’s voice demonstrates about her personality.
Christella Antoni, a consultant speech and language therapist, exclusively told Express.co.uk: “The word that comes to mind when I hear Princess Eugenie’s voice is ‘throaty’.
“It is very much a throat-placed voice, denoting some restrain and possible shyness.”
According to the expert, Eugenie’s voice has evolved and it sounded different in years gone by.
Christella explained: “In older interviews going back four or five years, the Princess’s voice sounds more husky and sometimes mildly croaky. This adds a layer of vulnerability to her sound.
“A trained voice clinician can pick up small moments of aphonia – intermittent absences of voice.
“This often occurs when the vocal cords do not meet consistently during voicing, possibly due to vocal fold swellings such as nodules.”
The language consultant explained what “nodules” are and how they directly affect the Princess’s voice.
Christella commented: “Nodules are a common benign laryngeal condition that makes voices sound husky.

“They occur frequently in high-level voice users and people who use a strained or restrained voice production technique.”
However, “nodules” will not be the only thing that impacts Eugenie’s voice, according to the expert.
Christella claimed: “As applies to all people, Princess Eugenie’s voice will be influenced by a range of factors.
“These include socio-economic class, voice use level and the sound of her parent’s voices.”
Another member of the Royal Family has a similar sounding voice to Eugenie.
The expert noted: “One of the strongest voice influences indicated in Princess Eugenie’s low-pitch voice is the voice of her mother, Sarah Ferguson.
“Her voice is also characterised by deeper vocal tones.”
But this “husky” element of Eugenie’s voice has evolved, according to Christella.
She suggested: “More recently, the Princess’s voice is displaying less of the huskiness of previous years.
“Perhaps her confidence has grown resulting in freer phonation.
“She campaigns on and frequently speaks out against the incredibly important topics of slavery and human trafficking.
“Could it be that by finding more purpose in life she has also found a stronger voice?”
