Queen Maxima of the Netherlands defies the grey skies in Rotterdam as she steps out in stylish bright blouse to attend mental health programme following flying visit to New York

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended a mental health programme in Rotterdam today. 

The Dutch royal, 52, travelled to the second-largest city in the Netherlands as part of the Herstel Nearby – Together for Mental Health programme.

The program is a joint initiative set up by the Oranje Fonds and the MIND Foundation.

Maxima is a patron of The Oranje Fonds, an organisation which is committed to strengthening and connecting the community.

And she wowed as she attended the event dressed in a chic colourful patterned blouse.

The mother-of-three defied the grey skies, pairing her strikingly bold shirt with vibrant peach-coloured flared trousers, and coordinating open-toed shoes and clutch bag.

And despite the rain in Rotterdam, Queen Maxima was snapped with a big smile on her face, as she made her way towards the event.

During the engagement, the royal spoke about the origins of the programme, and about the collaboration between the organisations running it.

Maxima also talked to both supporters and volunteers of the Zorgvrijstaat foundation about their advocacy, as they work to develop more caring and supportive neighbourhoods. 

Today’s appearance topped a busy few days for Queen Maxima, who spent August 28 and 29 in New York City.

Despite her busy schedule, Maxima again appeared in high spirits yesterday (Tuesday) as she met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. 

During their meeting, she handed him the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA) 2022 Annual Report.

Titled Creating a Path Toward Resilience and Opportunity, the document outlined how accessible, affordable and secure digital financial services can enhance opportunities for development, especially for those on low incomes.

And despite Rotterdam’s grim weather, Queen Maxima still had a big smile on her face as she entered the building for her engagement today, holding a stylish orange clutch

For that engagement, Queen Maxima donned an elegant green long-sleeved maxi dress, which featured puffed sleeves. 

Finishing the look, she wore her signature long blonde locks loose, and opted for natural makeup, finally pairing her frock with a pair of pearl earrings. 

Guterres also looked smart, donning a navy blazer, grey trousers, a blue shirt and a purple patterned tie.

The pair smiled as they shook hands in front of the UN flags to show the unity between them. 

Her return to the Big Apple this week kept the royal busy. Among her engagements, she also met with staff at the office of the UNSGSA for internal discussions. 

She appeared to enjoy the visit, and was snapped beaming as she signed the guest book at the UN Headquarters.

Maxima has held the position of special advocate of the Secretary-General for ‘Inclusive Finance for Development’ at the UN since 2009. 

The Dutch royal was appointed by former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. 

And the royal has the training for it – the Queen is a trained economist who has also previously worked in the industry of international finance.

She graduated with a degree in economics from, the Universidad Católica Argentina in 1995.

Between 1996 and 1998, before she became Queen, Maxima worked for HSBC James Capel Inc. in New York, where she was Vice-President of Latin American Institutional Sales.

Maxima has held the position of special advocate of the Secretary-General for ‘Inclusive Finance for Development’ at the UN since 2009

She then moved on to Dresdner Kleinwort Benson as Vice-President of the Emerging Markets Division, until July 1999. 

For the past 12 years, Maxima also has been honorary patron of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion, taking up the role in 2011.

Before her transatlantic trip, Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander took their niece Countess Luana to the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday.

There, the King, Queen, Princess Amalia, 19, Princess Alexia, 18, and Countess Luana posed for photographs, putting their arms around each other and beaming. 

No doubt they enjoyed the action, as Dutch driver Max Verstappen came in first place at his home circuit, Zandvoort.
