Roman Kemp has revealed that Princess Kate called him asking if she can come over to his parents’ house where she played with his family’s dogs while barefoot.

The Capital FM breakfast host, 30, who is the son of popstars Martin Kemp and Shirlie Holliman, revealed the royal, 41, contacted him after his BBC documentary Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency aired.

The show explored the suicide crisis affecting young men, a subject close to Roman’s heart after his best friend and producer Joe Lyons died by suicide in 2020.

Speaking to the Times, Roman said the call from the future Queen was ‘an honour but one of the weirdest things’.

‘We had a Zoom call, just her and me. And she was like, “Oh, you know, I can come over to your place and do it there.” And I just said, “No, let’s go to my parents”. It’s a bigger house. I don’t want to bring royalty to a flat in Vauxhall’.

Kate then travelled to the 1980s pop legends home in Hertfordshire where she met the whole family.

‘We were sitting at the kitchen counter, with my mum and dad and my sister with all the dogs, and Kate was there with us.

‘The funniest thing was she didn’t have any shoes on because she was respectful enough to take her shoes off at the door. That really stuck in my head because you never see royalty with no shoes,’ he said.

Kate is perhaps taking a tip from her sister-in-law Meghan, who previously revealed she was ‘barefoot’ and wearing ripped jeans when she first met William.

In the explosive Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the duchess admitted she was she did not know the ‘formality’ carries through behind closed doors and that she is a ‘hugger’ – which she did not realise was ‘jarring for some Brits’.

She also shared footage of herself barefoot sitting on the kitchen counter at Frogmore Cottage.

Meghan has also gone barefoot at official occasions, including during a powhiri welcome ceremony at Te Papaiouru Marae – a Māori meeting house – in Rotorua, during her trip to New Zealand.

Harry also appeared barefoot in photos where the couple announced they were expecting their second child, as well as in the couple’s Christmas card after Lilibet was born.

Prior to joining the royal family, Meghan often appeared barefoot – including in a shoot where she did yoga poses and since leaving, she posed for US magazine Variety barefoot.

The shoot, released last year, shows her laying on the ground, barefoot,  in a £4,657 Jason Wu dress.

Roman, who has also met with Prince William and Prince Harry to discuss mental health, later met with Kate again as he signed on to her ‘Shaping Us campaign’ where they released a short film together.

The radio host has also revealed Prince Harry once ‘urged him to throw water balloons at William’ when he was DJing at a Buckingham Palace garden party.

Speaking to James Haskell and Ian Wright while starring on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! in 2019, he said: ‘One time I had a letter through and it was from Prince Harry to come and DJ at the Buckingham Palace garden party. I was playing a track and someone came over and said ‘Roman come here’ and it was Prince Harry…

‘Princess Kate was there and there was a slingshot in the middle. They’ve got a bucket filled with water balloons, and they’re just pinging off these water balloons into the crowd from a balcony’.

‘He said come here, I’ve got Harry here holding it, Kate here holding it…

‘I’m like “what is going on?”, he said “aim a bit to the left” and I said “who am I aiming for” and he said “my brother!” I said no i’ll be done for treason!’
