Royal fans are horrified as they’re convinced King Charles took a swipe at Harry and Meghan during Kenya speech | The Sun

KING Charles gave a moving speech during his recent Kenya visit and included a sweet shout out to Prince William and Kate Middleton.

As His Majesty attended a State Banquet, he spoke of the special significance the country has for his family – but royal fans have pointed out that he missed out mentioning Harry and Meghan.

In the speech, King Charles said: “It means a great deal to my wife and myself that, in our Coronation year, our first State Visit to a Commonwealth country should bring us here to Kenya. We both take considerable pride in renewing the ties between the United Kingdom and Kenya, a country that has long held such special meaning for my family."

He added: "Nearly fifty years later it was here, in sight of Mount Kenya, that my son, The Prince of Wales, proposed to his wife, now my beloved daughter-in-law…

“For my part, I recall, as if it were yesterday, my first visit to Kenya in nineteen seventy-one, with my sister, The Princess Royal.”

Royal fans took to social media to claim that Charles “took a shot” at the Sussexes, with one saying: “Savage, he DIDN'T call HER my beloved daughter in law.”

However, one fan replied: “How is this taking a shot at them? That’s just a true statement.”

Prince William popped the question on October 20, 2010, when he was staying with Kate in an off-grid, remote cabin along the shores of Lake Rutunda.

The log cabins are the ultimate romantic getaway, surrounded by forests, mountains and offering spectacular views.

Royal author Katie Nicholl wrote in Vanity Fair: “Back at the cabin, on the veranda, William made Kate the happiest girl in the world by getting down on one knee and proposing.

“With the magnificent lake glistening nearby and not another soul to witness the magical moment, Kate likely felt that every year she had waited was worth it all for this. William had already arranged for a bottle of champagne to be put on ice at the cabin.”

Kate and William got married in front of millions in April 2011, and now have three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Charles, 74, has remained close to Kate since she joined the family in April 2011, with heartwarming public displays of affection in the Royals’ cheery and most challenging times.

In 2021, Kate greeted the King at a G7 reception by calling him his family nickname ‘grandpa’.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle in Nottingham Cottage in London, after deciding he wanted to marry her during a romantic trip to Botswana.

In his Spare biography, he detailed the moment he popped the question, writing: “I led her out to the garden. Cold night.

“We were both wrapped in big coats, and hers had a hood lined with fake fur that framed her face like a cameo. I set electric candles around the blanket.

“I wanted it to look like Botswana, the bush, where I’d first thought of proposing.

“My eyes already full of tears, I brought the ring out of my pocket and said my piece.

“I was shivering, and my heart was audibly thumping, and my voice was unsteady, but she got the idea.

“Spend your life with me? Make me the happiest guy on this planet? Yes. Yes? Yes!”

King Charles is open to a reconciliation with his youngest son, he is still unhappy with Harry for his "betrayal", according to royal commentators.
