‘A lump in my throat’: Susanna Reid admits she is choked with emotion after watching the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee sketch with Paddington Bear on GMB special

Susanna Reid admitted she had a ‘lump in her throat’ after watching a clip of the Queen with Paddington Bear following the death of the monarch.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who hosted a special tribute episode of the programme on ITV with Ben Shephard this morning, acknowledged the Platinum Jubilee clip was an emotional watch now the Queen has died.

After replaying the clip in a reel celebrating the monarch, the 51-year-old looked at the camera and said: ‘Brings a lump in the throat’, The Sun reported. 

The clip, in which Paddington Bear and Queen Elizabeth II, was filmed as part of the June celebration honouring the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.

The Queen delighted royal fans with her appearance in the sketch in which she has afternoon tea with the marmalade-loving bear.

In the sketch, Paddington guzzles tea straight from the spout of the teapot before offering Her Majesty a cup – with only a few drops left.

Showing her excellent manners, the Queen said ‘never mind’.

Later in the sketch, Paddington offers Her Majesty a marmalade sandwich from under his hat, which he always keeps on him ‘for emergencies’.

The Queen replies: ‘So do I,’ before opening her handbag and pulling out a pre-made sandwich.

In the sketch, the Queen revealed she keeps a marmalade sandwich in her bag, just like Paddington bear, ‘for later’

Paddington raised his hat to the monarch to wish her a happy Jubilee and to thank her ‘for everything’

She adds: ‘I keep mine in here, for later.’

The clip ends with Paddington raising his hat and saying: ‘Happy Jubilee, Ma’am. And thank you. For everything.’

‘That’s very kind,’ the Queen replies, before raising her spoon and tapping it on her teacup to the beat of Queen anthem, We Will Rock You. 

During the three-hour special of Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard reminisced over the highlights of the Queen’s historic reign with co-presenters Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh.

Guests included Welsh opera singer and one of the late monarch’s favourite performers, Katherine Jenkins, who was asked to record the first performance of the new National Anthem, God Save the King.

She told the presenters it was an ‘honour’ to be asked to record the song by BBC Radio 4. 

The 42-year-old said: ‘I had to really think about the future. To think about all the amazing things that have come in the past with Her Majesty and her incredible reign.

‘But now thinking in this way forward. I think King Charles will be a wonderful King and so I wanted to do the words justice.’
