Many people look at flight attendants for reassurance during a bumpy flight and usually they are nothing but cool, calm and collected. 

However apparently there is certain cabin crew behaviour you should look out for that might be a telling sign that your pilot is starting to worry about the plane.

According to travel expert Michael Gebicki, writing for Stuff NZ, if you see the air stewards having a good look at the wing, there could be something up.

Apparently pilots tend to ask their crew to look for things for them if they think there’s a problem. 

They said: ‘If the head steward comes down the aisle glancing anxiously out the windows, that could be in response to a request from the cockpit to check on an engine.

‘Spectacular, yes, especially at night, but not really a problem unless it’s the only engine turning, in which case it’s a big problem. 

‘Stay calm, statistically you’re much safer up here than behind the wheel of a car.’

However they did stress that a faulty engine certainly wouldn’t be cause for too much concern because planes have two engines and can fly with one.

It comes after a flight attendant revealed the items passengers should never bring on a plane, including one that could land them with an expensive fine.

Lisa Kulpa, from Buffalo, New York, warned about taking certain items on board a flight.

She reminded passengers not to bring anything with a strong smell onto their flight including nail varnish or nail varnish remover.

Speaking to The Points Guy, she explained: ‘Nail polish, nail polish remover — these products will make the whole plane smell, and some people get sick from it.

‘Other smelly things that are not really wanted include any extremely fragrant food. Even fast food sometimes stinks up a plane.’

She also warned against carrying on nail clippers as many airlines don’t allow it due to the sharp nail file.

Lisa, who is co-founder of the Basic Travel Couple blog, revealed the biggest concern is people bringing their own alcohol onboard.

She revealed that it is a safety issue because alcohol affects people differently at higher altitudes.

She said: ‘By serving you alcohol in flight, we can monitor how much you are drinking.’

Not only that, but public intoxication is a crime in many countries and being drunk on a flight could see you landed with fines of over £1,000.

However the flight attendant also gave advice on key items that you should bring onboard.

She admitted said to always carry-on necessary items such as car keys, medicine and electronics – as putting them in a cabin bag runs the risk of them being lost.

She also advised to bring on a jumper because flights tend to get chilly and the temperature can’t be controlled.

And for those people who like to take their shoes off during the flight to bring flip-flops as she advises against going to the bathroom barefoot.’
