There are so many things to consider when buying a home. You have the obvious ones like budget and location, but there are a lot of other factors that can come into play. If you have kids (or are planning to) you will want to think about the school system your future home is zoned for and how far it is from the house. Is the town walkable? That may or may not factor into your decision but if it does, is the downtown area up to your standards? Do you want to be near family and/or friends? If you are not near family, does the house have enough space for people to stay over when visiting? One piece of advice is to make a list of all of your must-haves, nice-to-haves, and your deal-breakers so you can match them up to the homes you are seeing.
Remember, there are things that are easily changed and some aspects of a home that are not. Paint and carpeting can all be replaced at some point but the location is set. Kitchen appliances can be updated but being close to a busy street cannot. There will always be some give and take when finding your home and knowing what you are willing to give up and what you aren’t is a big first step. Licensed real estate agent, Lauren Wilson, gives some more advice in the video above. Check it out and good luck on your home-buying journey!
