The UK looks set to once again blister under scorching temperatures as forecasters predict the return of a second heatwave just weeks after the country recorded its hottest ever day with a high of 40.3°C last Tuesday 19 July.

The latest predictions, which come from forecasters at the US National Centres for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), suggest that August will once again see the return of skyrocketing temperatures, with highs of upwards of 40°C expected for a second time.

According to the long range forecast, these high temperatures will hit Greater London and parts of Eastern England some time next month, with two forecasts predicting the scorching temperatures.

The calculations are based on a composite of 31 forecasts overall, with some experts warning that it may not be entirely accurate due to the small percentage, however, the organisation did successfully forecast July’s recent heatwave.

A second heatwave now looks increasingly likely, with multiple other forecasts also predicting temperatures in the mid to high 30’s in the South of England from the beginning of August.

Speaking about the unprecedented temperatures, The Royal Meteorological Society’s Weather journal co-editor-in-chief, Simon Lee, told The i: “This is the world we are in: having seen 40C in reality, we can also expect to see it appear as a possibility more frequently in ensemble forecasts.

"Back then, it was perhaps easier to discredit these scenarios as simply too extreme and too unlikely to warrant much further consideration – but then the extreme scenario became a reality on Tuesday 19 July.

“That changed everything, because now we know from observations that temperatures above 40C are achievable in the UK in the current climate.

“Previously, this had only been demonstrated as a possibility in climate models.”

During the most recent heatwave, emergency services across the country were stretched to capacity as people took dangerous dips into lakes and rivers to cool off, fires raged and large proportions of people suffered the potentially fatal effects of heatstroke and heat related illness due to the increased temperatures.

Married at First Sight couple Adam Aveling and Tayah Victoria, were even evacuated from their home on Tuesday as wildfires encroached upon their property and sent plumes of suffocating smoke into the air.

Sharing a series of photos from his home in Doncaster, ash could be seen falling from the sky like rain as flames and smoke continued to billow in the air.

“Please stay safe everyone. We have a field fire right by our house at the moment,” wrote a concerned Tayah on social media.

The couple, who are expecting their first child together, later confirmed that they had been evacuated by police.

They weren't the only ones suffering in the heat either, with many children around the country, including Prince George, also appearing to succumb to the unprecedented temperatures.

Dressed in a suit and tie at Wimbledon this year, the young royal appeared to be in some discomfort as he struggled to cope with the high temperature.
