You’ve been cooking potato waffles wrong – Birds Eye says you should use toaster

Potato waffles aren't exactly a difficult meal to whip up.

When buying the frozen variety, all you need to do is pop them onto a tray and whack them in the oven for a few minutes. And there's a way to make the process even simpler.

Birds Eye confirmed you can successfully cook its potato waffle in the toaster. Yes, you read that right.

The company revealed some fans have secretly been using the ingenious time-saving hack for years. As customers demanded to know whether or not the practice was safe, Bird’s Eye dedicated over 103 hours and 3,000 waffles to test whether or not they approve of the super-fast method.

Now, they have revealed that with just two pops of the toaster you can have perfectly, crispy potato waffles to serve as you desire.

Bird’s Eye also added “toasting” as a new cooking method onto the packaging of their Original Potato Waffles, meaning that fans can enjoy the fluffy treats in just minutes. And there's no more waiting around for the oven to heat up.

The testing was conducted over 20 days by using a variety of different toasters and settings to ensure that the method is safe and delivers on taste and texture.

To achieve the perfect potato waffle in your toaster, all you need to do is set your toaster to a medium/ high setting and insert the goods. Then, after the initial "pop", you should toast them for a second time.

At this point they should be a golden yellow in colour, but be warned – you should leave them to cool for a minute before chowing down.

Steve Challouma, Marketing Director at Birds Eye, said: “We know there has been a lot of confusion and debate on this way of cooking our Original Potato Waffles so we decided to put it to the test.

“After days of rigorous ‘toasting’, we’re happy to confirm it is safe to cook our waffles this way and it doesn’t compromise on taste either – you can still expect the same delicious taste that is crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle!”
