Ahead of another Prime Day sale taking place in October the fourth-gen Echo Dot has had its price reduced from £49.99 to just £19.99. That’s a huge £30 saving and is one of the cheapest prices the Echo Dot has been since the clever gadget launched in 2020. However, while this Alexa smart speaker is enjoying a big discount it could soon become outdated.

On Wednesday, September 28 Amazon will be holding an event where new Echo devices may be announced.
The fast-approaching showcase will reveal more about the online retail giant’s devices, services and Ring products.
At past events of its kind, Amazon has unveiled new entries in its Echo and Echo Dot line, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if these smart speakers are in line for a refresh.
The last time Amazon updated its Echo and Echo Dot range was back in 2020, when the fourth generation smart speakers were launched.
And these upgrades brought with them big changes, with both Alexa speakers getting a new spherical design as opposed to the previous disc and cylindrical shapes.

Not only did this help give the Echo and Echo Dot a new eye-catching look, but the ball-shaped design also helps offer improved sound quality. While these fourth-generation models were also made up of more recycled material than ever before.
If the fifth generation Echo and Echo Dot models are about to get unveiled it remains to be seen if there will once again be a radical redesign, or if Amazon sticks with the same design to improve and refine it.
Elsewhere, Amazon could look to improve the footprint of its Echo and Echo Dot to make sure these devices are made from even more recycled material.
Just recently Amazon announced a new entry-level Kindle ereader as well as a new Fire HD 8 tablet, with both of these devices made from more recycled material than ever before.
The Fire HD 8, which is available for pre-order, is made from 35 percent post-consumer recycled plastics whereas the previous model wasn’t.
And the new entry-level Kindle, which is also available for pre-order, is made from 75 percent post-consumer recycled plastics. This is for the black model and offers even more recycled materials than the more expensive 2019 Kindle Paperwhite.
These improvements to Amazon’s footprint could be a sign that any new Echo devices that are potentially in the works will also be greener and more environmentally friendly.
