Amazon’s new warning to help millions avoid disaster- think twice

The next time you visit Amazon to pick up a pair of earbuds or a new smartphone, you could get an alert urging you to think twice before making the purchase. The online retailer has begun warning customers if the product they are looking at has been regularly sent back for returns. According to a report from the Information, Amazon has begun putting “frequently returned” labels on products, in a bid to help consumers avoid buying misleading or poor-quality items.

Consumers who spot this tag could then look closely at the details of the product and read the reviews before buying.

This move should help the retailer itself, reducing unnecessary costs of returns, as Amazon generally allows new and unused items to be shipped back for free within 30 days,

Amazon is filled with bad products that are either deceptively advertised or poorly made, and these items are often hard to spot because they can be boosted by fake reviews.

Having such a warning will help customers be warier when buying such products, and could also encourage sellers to improve the quality of their items.

You may need to log in to your Amazon account in order to see this alert. Although so far the label has not been rolled out across the site.

It is important to note that Express.co.uk could not see this alert, so it is likely that the warning that not been rolled out in the UK yet, but it could come soon.

The Information spotted two listings where the returns warning has already appeared, such as the Pro-Ject Automat A1 record player and two dresses.

These items were rated about 4 stars each, giving consumers the impression that it’s a good product.

However, a closer look at the customer reviews revealed that the audio player was shipped in poor packaging, and as a result was damaged on arrival.

One user wrote: “They sent it in a way bigger box with absolutely no packaging around it beside a tiny sheet of paper.

“The box was torn and everything inside is torn. The turntable is scratched and doesn’t work properly. I will return. Do not buy this from amazon.”

Meanwhile, many customers complained about the quality of the fabric of the dresses they bought and added that in many cases, the dress was not true to size.

Amazon spokesperson Betsy Harden told the Information: “We’re currently showing return rate information on some product detail pages to help our customers make more informed purchase decisions.”
