Elon Musk’s ultimatum to staff – say yes to ‘hardcore’ Twitter 2.0 or get fired

Elon Musk has issued a devastating ultimatum to the Twitter staff he hasn't sacked yet.

Workers at the social media giant were told early on Wednesday morning that they have until 10PM on Thursday to agree to an 'extremely hardcore' new Twitter, or face the sack.

Employees have been asked to sign a pledge via an email which says "If you are sure you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below."

If they don't, they'll be given three months' severance pay and told to move on from the company.

Musk said in a midnight email to staff that the new Twitter "will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade."

This is coupled with a new policy forcing Twitter staff to return to the office full-time, after years of a remote working policy at the firm.

Musk has already sacked around half of all staff at the social media firm, including those who publicly criticised him or pointed out he was wrong.

This week, Musk fired a veteran Twitter engineer who explained why Musk was wrong about performance issues in the Android app for Twitter. Eric Frohnhoefer even outlined what needed to be done to address the issue.

Musk simply tweeted, "he's fired", which Frohnhoefer replied to with a salute emoji.

It's unclear how many Twitter staff will actually sign up to Musk's 'hardcore' new pledge, but the billionaire could be in hot water if nobody says 'yes'.

The platform has meanwhile frozen new sign-ups to the platform and Musk has suspended the relaunch of the site's Blue Verified service until the end of November.
