The Huawei Watch GT, Huawei Watch GT 2, Honor Band 4 and Honor Band 5 have all received a new update that introduces extra watch faces for Chinese New Year, meaning owners can customise their wearable to acknowledge the annual holiday. The Huawei Watch GT and Honor Band series’ are undeniably some of the best wearables you can get on Android. Each offers a range of health and fitness functionality that can seamlessly be leveraged to make you more active.
That said, neither set of devices are without their limitations. In particular, both the Huawei Watch GT and Honor Band are relatively limited when it comes to customisation. Sure, both Chinese tech firms offer a number of different watch faces to choose from, but there’s no way to make your own or download new ones from third-party developers.
It seems Huawei and Honor are both aware of the limited customisation offered by each respective wearable and are looking to improve things for owners. Huawei Central has reported the Huawei Watch GT, Huawei Watch GT 2, Honor Band 4 and Honor Band 5 are all receiving new watch faces based on the Year of the Rat, giving owners more choice with regard to their wearable’s aesthetic.
It’s unclear if Huawei and Honor will continue to issue owners with new watch faces for special events like Chinese New Year or if this is a one-off instance.
The new update isn’t all about aesthetics though, it should also improve the Honor Band 4’s functionality for incoming calls.
Updating your Huawei Watch GT or GT 2 is simple. All you need to do is open the Huawei Health app (after you’ve paired your wearable) press Devices, then select your wearable and choose Firmware update.
For those with an Honor Band, open the Huawei Health app and press Me > My devices. From there, press the Firmware update button.
Updates for both wearables should be available right now.
Huawei and Honor have placed a huge emphasis on wearables of late. The former unveiled its newest smartwatch – the aptly titled Huawei Watch GT 2 – back in September. Express.co.uk was a huge fan of the device (bar its barebones smartwatch features) and awarded it four out of five stars in our review.
Our verdict read: “The Huawei Watch GT 2 is an exceptional fitness tracker housed in a deceptive smartwatch body. The Chinese tech giant has truly created a workout partner that we can’t imagine going without.
“While its lack of smartwatch functionality is still somewhat difficult to overlook, you’ll still enjoy the GT 2 as long as you’re aware of its inherent limitations.”
