Huge Android boost coming this month could help rival the iPhone 15

Apple’s latest iPhone 15 Pro models have certainly upped the game when comes to performance. These latest devices now feature the ludicrously fast A17 Pro chips which are capable of offering console-style levels of power on the phone in your pocket. As you can read in our full iPhone 15 Pro Max review there are currently no Android devices that come close to matching this new processor to come out of the labs in Cupertino but that might not be the case for much longer.

Some major Android news will be announced later this month with San Diego-based Qualcomm fully expected to unveil its shiny new Snapdragon processor at its Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii.

This yearly event might not sound all that interesting to the average consumer but it always offers up big news including that massive speed boost for upcoming devices.

Almost all Android phones – including models from Samsung, Sony, OnePlus and Motorola – use Snapdragon chips and things are about to get much more powerful and far more efficient.

If Qualcomm follows recent tradition, we’ll almost certainly see the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip replaced with a Gen 3 upgrade. This will be way faster than anything that has gone before it along with reducing energy consumption which should mean longer battery life.

Last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 launch saw some tasks get a 25 percent boost over the 8 Gen 1 and there’s nothing to suggest that 2023’s chip will be any different.

And it’s not just sheer grunt that will be upgraded. Qualcomm’s latest and greatest brains always improve functionality such as AI, gaming and photography plus you can expect to see faster downloads thanks to upgrades to Wi-Fi and 5G.

Full details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be unveiled from Tuesday, October 24 and it’s definitely not to be missed if you are considering an Android upgrade in the coming months.

Once announced, it’s likely many manufacturers will begin using the processor from early 2024 so now could be a bad time to buy a new device if you want the ultimate performance.
