Winter is back with a vengeance in the UK, and as usual, most of us are totally unprepared.
But if you're an iPhone owner, you don't have to be. Apple's smartphone has some top-notch weather tech built into it which can act as your own personal early warning system.
Although it isn't very well-known, the iPhone's Stay Dry notifications can give you a vital heads-up if you're about to face rain, hail, snow or a storm soon.

It uses your location data to give you timely alerts about when you should prepare.
The feature was rolled out as part of a major overhaul of the iPhone's Weather app last year.
It could give you time to grit your driveway, stick on a warm coat, or put the heating on before you're caught short by the weather.
With this winter set to be one of the coldest on record you'll need all the help you can get to stay prepared.
How to activate Stay Dry notifications on iPhone
It's easy enough to set up the Stay Dry feature on your iPhone. It's free to use and doesn't require any additional input from you once it's activated (beyond your location).
First, ensure that the Weather app has all your location info.

You can grant the app permissions for this by opening your Settings app then going to Privacy > Location Services > Weather and then select 'Always'.
Giving permission for precise location data can provide even more accurate insights.
Once this is enabled, open the Weather app on the iPhone home screen and tap the list icon in the bottom-right of the screen.
A window will pop up with an option called Stay Dry at the top of it. Turn on notifications, then toggle the switch for 'My Location'. Finally, tap 'done' to get your weather warnings.
