Apple has confirmed that it will be holding one of its blockbuster product announcements tomorrow evening. The event, which kicks off on September 7 at 6pm BST, looks almost certain to be about the new iPhone 14 range with these devices expected to receive faster processors, always-on displays and improved cameras. Rumours are also rife that the Pro models will get satellite technology which will allow owners to make calls when no mobile signal is available.

We’ll find out full details tomorrow night but this event might not only be about smartphones. A new update from Apple expert Mark Gurman, has revealed that the US technology giant might use its “Far out” event to announce some new AirPods Pro earbuds.

These mini music makers haven’t been refreshed since their launch back in 2019 so an upgrade would certainly make sense. It’s rumoured that the 2022 AirPods Pro will get improved sound thanks to an upgraded H1 processor and better connection to phones via the latest Bluetooth 5.2 technology.

A rebooted design with wingtips, a little like the Beats Fit Pro, may also be revealed along with better battery life and an updated case that emits a bleeping noise should it get lost.

The AirPods Pro has been hugely successful for Apple and this upgrade could make these wireless buds even more desirable.

“The new AirPods Pro will update a model that first went on sale in October 2019,” said Gurman. “I reported last year that new AirPods Pro would arrive in 2022, and now I’m told that Wednesday will be their big unveiling.”

So will anything else be revealed at the keynote?

A new Apple Watch Pro is also thought to be in the works which could offer a robust design and more accurate tracking for runners.

This wearable could also look different from the rest of the range with a design that includes sharper edges and a flat screen rather than the slightly curved display available on the current Apple Watch range. Expect longer battery life, faster charging and a new chip to be included although all of that tech might also mean a higher price.

Another release at the keynote could include an update to Apple Fitness+ and more content coming to Apple TV+.
